Pick up exactly
where you left off.
Your notes app remembers your notes. Nothing remembers the tabs — the research, the dashboard, the doc that were all part of the same train of thought. Tab Handoff saves the whole window plus three quick notes and reopens everything in one click.
Works in Edge, Brave, Arc, and other Chromium browsers — install from the Chrome Web Store.
How it works
Save this window
Pick exactly which tabs to save — the whole window or just the ones you want, individually or by group. Then jot three lines: where you stopped, what's blocking you, what's next.
Walk away
Close everything. The session stays in your browser's local storage — entirely on your device, zero network calls. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Resume in one click
Open the extension, pick the session. Tabs reopen in a new window or your current one — tab groups and pinned tabs restored exactly — with your handoff notes up top. Back in context instantly, no cold start.
What a saved session looks like
Everything it does
- Pick which tabs — save the whole window or select individual tabs and groups; skip what you don't need.
- 3 handoff notes — where you stopped, what's blocking, what's next (280 characters each).
- Resume anywhere — reopen in a new window or your current one; tab groups and pinned tabs restored exactly.
- Search your sessions — find any saved session by name, note, or tab.
- Export & share — Markdown, CSV, plain links, or
.session.json— hand a session to a teammate or drop it into Notion. - Yours to theme — real site favicons, light/dark mode, and a custom accent color.
Stays on your device — nothing is uploaded
- Every session is stored in your browser's local storage. The extension makes zero network calls — no servers, no analytics, no account required.
- Minimal permissions:
tabs(read URLs/titles),tabGroups(save & recreate groups),storage(keep sessions locally),clipboardWrite(copy exports to your clipboard), andfavicon(real site icons from Chrome's local cache — no network to the sites). No access to page contents, no browsing history. - Same store-nothing principle behind Restora — your data belongs to you.
Backing up your tabs? Back up your Notion too.
Tab Handoff remembers your session. Restora backs up your Notion databases — relations, rollups, and views intact — and can restore them if you delete something. Free to back up.
Questions
Is anything uploaded?
No. Your saved sessions live entirely in your browser's local storage, and the extension never makes a network request. Nothing leaves your device.
What permissions does it ask for, and why?
Five, all minimal: tabs (to read the URLs and titles of tabs you're saving), tabGroups (to save and recreate your tab groups with their name and color), storage (to keep sessions on your device between browser restarts), clipboardWrite (to copy Markdown / CSV / link exports to your clipboard), and favicon (to show real site icons from Chrome's local cache — no network to the sites). No host access, no content scripts, no browsing history.
Which browsers?
Chrome, and any Chromium-based browser — Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, Vivaldi — all install straight from the Chrome Web Store. A Firefox build is planned.
What about tabs that can't be reopened?
Internal pages (chrome://, extension pages, local files) are saved for reference but skipped when reopening — the extension tells you how many. Pinned tabs come back pinned; tab groups come back with their name and color.
Does it work with Restora?
Yes. Export any saved session to a .session.json file; the Restora app can read the handoff notes and reopen the saved links. Tab Handoff can also import any Restora .session.json.
What's the difference between this and bookmarks?
Bookmarks are one link at a time — you have to manually reconstruct the context. Tab Handoff saves the whole window as one session, plus the three handoff notes that explain exactly where you were and what to do next. It's a work-state snapshot, not a link list.
